K-Street Festival | For the Love of All Things Korean!

Back when K-pop and K-dramas weren't as popular as they are today, I had to go to great lengths just to purchase an album of my favorite K-pop group and I had to scour the internet to watch properly-subbed episodes of K-dramas. These days, with the continuous rise and the growing dominance of Hallyu around the world, one can easily stream K-pop songs and currently airing Korean dramas through smartphone and smart TV apps. Fangirling has definitely become easier through the years!

But wait - it gets better.

For the first time ever, the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) of the Philippines will be hosting the K-Street Festival, a celebration of all things Korean - from the culture itself, to food, fashion, and beauty. The event will be held at Bonifacio High Street’s C1 Park from May 31 to June 1, and at the BGC Amphitheater from June 1 - June 2.

This one-of-a-kind festival promises to delight everyone with traditional and contemporary Korean activities that showcase the wonderful culture of this country.

Celebrating the depth and breadth of Korea’s rich culture, K-Street Festival will have seven zones at the C1 park, plus a whole lot more activities at the BGC Amphitheater that will make you feel like you’ve been transported to Korea. Get ready to check all these out for must-try experiences!

Foodie Goodie | UniBearsity Cafe.

While browsing through the 'Nearby Places' tab on Facebook, I came across UniBearsity Cafe and a handful of geo-tagged photos of the place. In photos, this new cafe looked nice and modern, and the food looked quite appetizing. Yue and I were driven by curiosity (and the desire to eat something 'non-fast food') so we decided to have lunch here the other day, right after his karate training.

UniBearsity Cafe characterizes itself as a 'concept hang-out place' which aims to serve its customers not just good food, but also a unique dining experience. Although relatively new (they opened last January), this place seems to be well-liked by teens and young adults, and I think the cafe's ambiance contributes a lot to its popularity.

Adorned with teddy bears and throw pillows, UniBearsity Cafe has a relaxed and homey vibe, with Instagram-worthy aesthetics to boot. This crib-style cafe has lounges sectioned off for each group of customers, where you can sit on the floor, plop on a pillow, and snuggle with teddy bears.

If dining while sitting on the floor isn't your thing, don't worry. This cafe has regular tables and chairs for customers like me who think it's a hassle to remove your shoes in public and find it uncomfortable to sit with your legs crossed for an extended period of time.

As for the menu, UniBearsity Cafe offers pasta, snacks such as nachos, burgers, and fries, and a small selection of desserts. They serve 'silogs aka breakfast meals all-day, and they have a wide variety of beverages to choose from. All items on their menu are affordably-priced, nothing beyond Php 100.

I was expecting Yue would want a rice meal since he gets really hungry after karate training, but he chose the Tuna Pasta instead. I was in the mood for pasta as well, so I ordered the Chicken Mushroom Pasta for myself. We also got a platter of Nachos for sharing, a glass of Classic Lemonade, and a glass of Cucumber Lemonade.

Since we were the first customers that day, it didn't take long for our food to be cooked. The Nachos were served on a chopping board lined with wax paper, topped with a generous amount of ground beef, chopped tomatoes, and gooey, melted cheese. I like that the chips were crispy and the toppings were flavorful, but I would have liked it even more had there been onions and cucumber in the mix.

The pastas that we ordered both had white sauce. Yue enjoyed his Tuna Pasta, saying that it tastes like the carbonara that I cook at home. My Chicken and Mushroom Pasta, however, was a bit watery and the sauce just wouldn't adhere well to the noodles. The noodles per se weren't soggy, but the garlic bread on the side was, and I couldn't even eat it because it was 'too wet', lol. I guess the cook didn't drain the noodles properly, leaving some pasta water on the plate.

The drinks were okay, but I can tell from one sip that they're made from fruit juice powder and not from natural fruits. I give props to the presentation, though. They were served in cute, bear-shaped glasses which matched the cafe's theme.

Overall, I like the concept of UniBearsity Cafe - budget-friendly food that even college students can afford; a cozy place to hang-out with friends, brainstorm for a project, or have a group study; ambiance and aesthetics that would stand out on an Instagram feed. They need to work on their kitchen techniques and drain their noodles properly, though, because a watery spaghetti can ruin the whole dining experience.

4 Easy and Effective Workouts You Can Do Regularly at Home.

We all know how important getting regular exercise is. Even if you’re not particularly interested in bodybuilding or have no plans to join any kind of athletic competition anytime soon, working out is still a must.

1. Standing Taps
Resistance bands are great to use during workouts because they are capable of targeting different kinds of muscles in your body. They can also make a specific exercise just a bit more challenging so that you get more benefits. For the purposes of toning your lower body, you can try out standing taps that involve the use of a resistance band.

You can perform the exercise by first wrapping the resistance band around your ankles. With the band in place, you can step to the side using one foot and fight against the tension. Repeat that for your other foot as well.

Alternatively, you can also step back with one of your feet and keep doing that over and over. Repeat that for the other side too.

2. Push-Ups
Push-ups are included in just about every type of exercise routine because of two reasons.

First off, push-ups can be done anywhere. As long as you have a flat surface under you and enough room to stretch your body horizontally, you can get some push-ups in. On top of that, push-ups are also great for making you stronger and toning the muscles in your arms.

The key to successfully performing push-ups is to distribute your weight evenly across your upper body and your arms. Gradually lower your body to the ground so that your arms can support you properly. Raise your body slowly up too as that will prevent any of your muscles from getting strained.

3. Planks
Planking is not just some fad that hit a while ago and should now be completely forgotten. It is actually a form of exercise that can work wonders on your body. To be more specific, planking can help tone your abdominal and back muscles.

You don’t have to start planking for huge chunks of time right away. Planking even for just 15-second intervals should help. Once you get used to it, you can go for longer planking sessions.

4. Jumping Jacks 
 Are you looking for a form of exercise that’s a bit more comprehensive? There are not a lot of exercises that can work for the whole body, but the iconic jumping jack is one of them.

Every time you perform a jumping jack, every part of your body is in motion. Jumping jacks are good for raising your heart rate as well as improving your agility. It’s also just fun to jump around every now and then, so go ahead and give jumping jacks a try.

The gym may be the preferred place for exercising, but there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t get a good workout at home. With the help of a resistance band and some open space in your home, you can stay in great shape without ever having to set foot inside a gym.

Basics of Corresponding Angles.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines corresponding angles to be two equal angles on the same side of a line that crosses two parallel lines and on the same side of each parallel line. Our need to know how to determine the values of corresponding angles is applicable to most fields of endeavor, from architectural design and construction to navigation aids such as radar to locate ships and airplanes. But how do you go about finding the values for corresponding angles?

The theorem of corresponding angles states that if two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal line, then the pairs of corresponding angles formed are congruent. A transversal line is a line that passes through two other lines. Corresponding angles are those angles that are in the same relative position at the intersections of a transversal line and two parallel lines. Note that the two lines must always be parallel for this theorem to apply.

How to Find Corresponding Angles
According to the Corresponding Angle Postulate, when a transversal line intersects two parallel lines, all of the corresponding angles must be equal. Thus, if you know the value of one of the corresponding angles, then you know that the other corresponding angle is equal to it. In addition, because a straight line forms a straight angle, which measures 180 degrees, you can also determine the value of the angle adjacent to the known angle by subtracting the known value from 180.

How to Know When Lines are Parallel
According to the converse of the Corresponding Angle Postulate, if two lines and a transversal line form corresponding angles that are congruent, then the two lines are parallel. If the lines were not parallel, a triangle would be formed between the transversal and the point where the two other lines intersect. Everything around us forms lines and angles. From the books we read to the homes and buildings we occupy to the roads on which we drive, it all comes down to lines and angles. Most of our cities are laid out in grid patterns of lines and angles. We use maps and GPS as navigation aids, whether we are driving, flying, or sailing the seas. We even walk in straight lines and angles. Surely, it makes sense that we know the relationship between lines and angles.

Thus, the value of knowing how to find corresponding angles reaches out to us in ways we might not always comprehend, from the simplest gestures to the most complex algorithms. With a little awareness and enough practice, maybe we can begin to recognize the corresponding angles that appear in our own lives. Who knows? Spotlight | Althea A'bloom.

I love sheet masks. And I love them a lot.
Aside from being my favorite step in my Sunday skincare routine (sometimes I add them to my mid-week skincare routine whenever I feel like it), sheet masks are probably THE skincare product that I will never run out of and can never live without. Among the four variants, the Avo-Cuddle-Me would have to be my favorite. Mildly scented, non-irritating, and very moisturizing, the avocado sheet mask made my skin soft and supple without the sticky feel. My only gripe is that the sheet mask seems a tad too big for my face. That, or maybe I have stretched it out too much in the process of unfolding the sheet mask and sticking it to my face.

Next up, we have the BHA Blackhead Blaster. It's a slick stick that helps remove whiteheads and blackheads easily and pain-free.

My sister easily rubbed all the blackheads off her nose, leaving her with nothing but soft and clear skin afterwards. I saw her blackheads 'coming out' and I was grossly impressed, lol.

Personally, I like the Baby Meringue Puff more than its big (bigger) sister. I feel like they're softer, fluffier, and they're easier to clean. I use the baby puff to apply cheek tint on my face, and to blend concealer under my eyes and around my eyebrows. I would have preferred a pointier tip for these meringue puffs, but I love them nonetheless. 

As of this writing, the A'bloom Sheet Masks are still out of stock at the Althea website. The response to these sheet masks was so overwhelming that the website almost crashed when offered a 10+10 introductory sale. Your main aim on Instagram is to have as many followers as possible and one of the best ways to get your name out there is to have a presence in places where your target market is likely to be found. For example, you could contribute towards online forums that discuss new music.
