Although this is somehow sad news for the older generation who couldn’t relate, the good thing is that good memories are preserved through photos. Social media photography makes life more exciting, colorful, and adds fun to travels.

However, not everyone has already mastered the art of social media photography. Just like any hobby and activity, there are some skills you need to learn to do it really well. Who doesn’t want their Facebook or Instagram feed to look as beautiful and exciting as their last trip to Maldives? We all love beauty. So, for you just starting to get on to this hobby that is social media photography, here are some tips to take good photos:

The very first thing you need to take into consideration is good lighting. Choose a place that’s naturally bright, lively, and highlights the subject you’ve chosen. This way, you wouldn’t have to adjust the photos brightness and contrast. Show nature, the sky, show just how the sun lights up everything under it. When you’ve finally taken the photo, make sure that it is not against the light – this is one of the rules in basic photography.

Define the subject
A good photo has a well-defined subject. When you’re at the beach, a good subject could be you with the sea at the background. If you’re at a busy street, it could be the teenager helping the old woman carefully cross at the pedestrian lane. Your subject should tell the story. It has to be something interesting and eye-catching. When you’re taking a photo in your favorite restaurant for instance, your subject can be your most favorite thing in that establishment, say your spot?

Rule of Thirds
After choosing a good subject, the next thing to consider is following the Rule of Thirds. This is taught in any photography class. Look at your camera, mobile phone, or whatever device you use to take a photo and look it up at the settings. Turn it on – the three lines that intersect each other. Then, put your subject within the frame, at the intersection points of these lines. Not at the center, okay?

Some people are not into filters and that’s completely understandable, especially professional photographers. But if you’re into it, make sure that you go easy on it. Too much is not good and it only ruins the natural beauty of the place and the subject. There are many apps you may use online if you need filters, like VSCO. Again, just remember not to overdo it.

Good caption
Now we’ve come to the last, but equally important element of a good photo for your social media – the caption. Go back to the story you’re telling and use that. What do you want to say? Keep it short, simple, and straight to the point. Unless you want to be a little mysterious, let the photos speak for itself, and forget the caption, or just use an emoji.

Still having fun? It could seem challenging at first if you’re just starting out. But, it doesn’t have to feel like work. Take it easy and start by following accounts on social media that feature good photos. In this way, you’ll naturally have an eye for good photos and subjects.

Take (lots of) photos, but don't forget to enjoy the moment.

Too much social media is bad, so you have to make sure that you scroll on your feeds in moderation. When you travel and take photos for your social media, there’s nothing wrong when all you want is to capture the beauty of the moment. Preserving happy memories is an absolute healthy thing to do. So, take as many photos as you can and follow these tips to ensure quality photos for your social media.

Your friends would surely love to see the beauty of the place you just visited, and most importantly, how happy you are to be there. For your haters, if you have some – never mind them!

Tips for Capturing Beautiful Pictures.

A picture is said to be worth 1,000 words. When you take pictures of scenes in nature, these words can come into focus if you know how to capture the right balance of light and dark, as well as the details of what is in the picture.

You don’t have to take professional classes in order to capture the beauty of the outdoors, but you do need a quality camera. Photographers like Robert Rosenkranz can take one scene - such as an ocean wave - and turn it into a stunning masterpiece with a simple click of a button.

Perspective
When you think of ways to take a picture, you might think that you have to sit directly in front of the subject. You don’t have to be right in front of something, and if you want the best picture possible, it’s probably best if you alter the perspective of the picture.

Try standing on top of a chair to get a different view of laying on the ground and looking up to get a wider view of the scene. You can often capture more of the missed details when you do change the perspective of how you take the picture.

Eye Contact
If you’re taking pictures of something that’s alive - whether it’s a person or an animal - try to get as much eye contact as possible. When you’re taking a picture of an animal, you might have to wait until it’s looking at you, or you might have to walk around to another spot so that you can capture the depths of the animal though the eyes.

With people, it’s a little easier. There are a few ways that you can take pictures by playing with the eye contact. Let the person focus on something that is off to the side or far away. This will create a picture that is a little more natural.

Looking at someone in the picture is another common way to capture beautiful images that show the love between two people, especially in engagement pictures. When you position the subject of the picture in the center, you can either have an amazing picture or something that looks like it’s been set down in the middle of the frame and forgotten about.

One way to create a picture that has depth is my placing the subject on the side of the frame. The lighting will also affect how the picture turns out depending on whether you use something bright or a dimmer light to pick up on natural features.

To Have and to Hold | Top Wedding Photography Trends of 2013.

'Twas one of those days when I miss the husband immensely and as I flipped through our wedding album, it made me realize how different wedding pictures looked like five years ago. (Yes, we're celebrating our fifth anniversary this June.) Not surprising since wedding trends move really fast; and portraits missisauga are no exception.

With June fast approaching, I'm pretty sure the photography business will again be at its busiest. If you're one of those June brides (or grooms, for that matter), here are some wedding photography trends that you can expect:

Turning five. :)

Color - lots and lots of color
Bright, natural colors are one of the hottest wedding photography missisauga trends these days. Super saturated photos are ideal for pre-nuptial and engagement photos as they make colors pop, and add a whimsical feel to the images.

Vintage glam
Washed out photos reminiscent of the Casablanca era are all the rage right now. If nostalgia is right up your alley and suits your style, then vintage edits are the way to go.

Bokeh love
Bokeh is one of my personal favorites. In Nihonggo, the word means “blurred” or “hazy” and in terms of photography, it means part of the image is aesthetically blurred such that objects in focus stand out beautifully.

Now remember, whatever trend you follow or whatever style you choose, your wedding photos should focus primarily on you, your spouse, and the emotions of this momentous occasion. Take your time and  have fun with putting your own personal touch on  these trends to make your wedding photos truly unique.

Consider This | Choosing a Wedding Photographer.

When the husband and I were planning and preparing for our wedding some five years back, one of the first and most important things we considered was our wedding pictures. After all, it's a momentous, once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and we wanted someone who can capture the moment - our moment - down to the most minute details.

Here are some points we considered when we choose our wedding photographer. If you're tying the knot soon, or if you're still in the preparation stages of your wedding, you may find these helpful.

1) Who's In? Who's Out? Get recommendations from friends and relatives, or from people who have previously worked with wedding photographers.

2) Save or splurge? To be able to relive your special day just by looking back at your photos - isn't that nice? So it's only justifiable if you have to pay a bit more for your wedding photograper halifax as long as he has the skills and talent.

3) Job well done? Check the photographer's previous works and see if they live up to your standards or if his photography style is to your liking. Most photographers these days have websites or online portfolios where you can view their work.

Wordless Wednesday #10 | Chasing Butterflies.

Last Monday, the little man's Kindergarten class, together with the Nursery and Preparatory students of The Learners Academy, went on a day trip to Dioko Garden Resort and Butterfly Farm. The kids had a blast as they had a chance to see not just the butterflies, but also the animals at the mini zoo located within the resort grounds.
