Wordless Wednesday #112 | Happy Birthday to Me!

I turned 33 last Sunday, and yes, I have no qualms about revealing my age. :)
Despite the bad weather brought about by Typhoon Hagupit, I was able to celebrate my birthday at home, with my family.
With my little man and my princess niece. :)
Big thanks to my fambam, my friends, my colleagues, and Chael Sonnen (he sent me a birthday greeting via Twitter, how freaking awesome is that) for making my day super special. :)
Make a wish! :)
Oh, and here's a close-up shot of my birthday cake. My sister got my KPop groups mixed up, and baked me an EXO cake! Haha, the irony! But who cares about the design, as long as it tastes great, right?

Get your Pink on for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to services.

In an effort to educate and empower women to take charge of their own breast health, Q-T Intimates, an innovator in the world of intimate apparel, is collaborating with the Breast Cancer Charities of America (BCCA). Q-T Intimates is proud to partner with the BCCA and support the work they are doing to make a difference in women's lives.

The BCCA is the leader in integrated cancer care, bringing together progressive breast cancer authorities from different health care and allied health care disciplines to spread their message to the women of America. They focus on bringing the body, mind and spirit to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Through their program services, BCCA's goal is to educate, teach and provide the latest accurate information about integrated cancer care, cancer prevention, recovery, treatment, early detection and survival. The group is dedicated to ending breast cancer as a life-threatening illness. Their iGoPink campaign hosts several events and fundraisers each year to help fund research on the link between breast cancer and nutrition, educate the public and health care professionals on integrated cancer care, and support the "Help Now Fund," which provides food, clothing, shelter, transportation, mammograms and more to women who are uninsured or in need.

Q-T Intimates has created a limited edition bra, the Breast Cancer Awareness Bra, that is available only through the end of October. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each limited production bra will go to support the BCCA's iGoPink campaign. The fashionable t-shirt bra is made with seamless microfiber and features a low center gore, underwire support and lace trim detail. The black padded plunge bra is also adorned with pink bows and a sparkling pink breast cancer awareness ribbon charm.

UFC Fight Night | Chael Sonnen for the win!

Talk like a gangster. Fight like a boss. Win like a champion.
That's exactly what Chael Sonnen did in UFC Fight Night 26, when he beat Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua with a first round submission.

In front of more than 12,000 fans in Boston's TD Garden, Sonnen proved that there's more to his trash-talking and unpredictable shticks. Using his impressive wrestling skills, he took Rua down early on in the round, and they pretty much stayed on the mat the entire time.

Rua, a former light heavyweight champion, managed to defend himself and got back on his feet. And just when you thought the odds have turned in favor of the Brazilian, the American Gangster got a standing guillotine, brought it down, and locked it tight. And at 4:47 of the first round, Rua (who happens to be a black belter in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), tapped out.

After the fight, Sonnen dedicated his win to his grandmother, to his friend Alaina, and to all cancer patients and survivors. Of course, no interview would be complete without his witty remarks, and this time he picked on another Brazilian. "Wanderlei Silva. 6 feet tall and 205 pounds, but until I met you, I didn't know they could stack crap that high," said Sonnen, quipping a line from Full Metal Jacket.

He was a bit 'tamer' however, in the post-fight press conference. When asked how he felt about snapping his two-fight losing streak, Sonnen answered, "It feels good because it's Shogun."

He went on by saying, "The guy's a former world champion. He's going to be in the Hall of Fame. He's beaten [Chuck] Liddell. He's beaten Forrest Griffin. He's beaten [Lyoto] Machida. He's beaten all these guys. He's beaten guys I've known and looked up to, from the Kevin Randlemans and Mark Colemans of the world. So yeah, it feels good."

And boy, do I feel good.
And why not? I am perhaps the biggest Chael Sonnen fan in this country, if not the world. So yeah, my happiness is beyond the stars.

Congrats Chael Sonnen!
And to all the other winners in UFC Fight Night 26 - Travis Browne, Urijah Faber, Matt Brown - kudos to you, too! You've all made me a happy fangirl. :)

The Ultimate Fighter 17 | Awesome Coaches, Great Contenders, Superb Fights, Best Season Yet.

I give myself a pat on the back for watching this season of The Ultimate Fighter from start to finish. Well, the show isn't finished quite yet. There's still the Finale, which happens tomorrow (April 13) in Las Vegas. But I must say, this is the only season that I've watched religiously - not missing any episode, watching even the reruns - heck, I even keep tabs on all the contenders via their social media accounts!
Coaches and Contenders.
The match between the two coaches is something fans have long been looking forward to. We all know how Chael Sonnen called out Jon Jones last year when he posted this on his Twitter account:  "30 min to cement your legacy. Champ or Coward?"

Chael wanted to replace Henderson in the main event for UFC 151; that didn't happen because Jon refused to fight Chael unprepared and the event had to be cancelled altogether.  UFC 151 will go down in history as the event that never happened, and Chael taunted Jon Jones later on by saying, "I KNOW you will never fight me. Don't be afraid. But I'll always be the monster in the closet of your mind, little JJ."

That bad blood alone makes this season a must-watch for TUF fans. But what made this more interesting for me was how I saw a different side of Chael as he mentored Team Darkside. Sure, he's outspoken, has an air of arrogance, and often speaks brazenly, but his coaching skills are quite commendable. The way he trained his team, the way he bonded with them, the way he encouraged and kept on motivating them to achieve their dreams of making it to the UFC - truly praise-worthy.

For the first time ever, I saw a new Chael Sonnen. One that has a big heart, cares for other people, and looks after his team as if they were his family. I must say, the show 'humanized' the Bad Boy, and I have a new-found love and respect for the man.

And then we come to the Contenders - an interesting mix of strikers, boxers, wrestlers, grapplers. This bunch is oozing with skills, talent, and personality, which makes this season of The Ultimate Fighter the best ever. Even Dana White can't argue with that fact. The fights from this season have left many in awe, and the UFC President was one of them.

He told the press, "This season is so f------ good, and I was so happy with the guys, I told them, every one of you guys are going to fight. You're going to get one more chance in the UFC." He went on by saying, "Every guy here is going to get one more chance in the UFC. [Matchmaker] Joe Silva wants to f------ kill me. 'It's impossible. It mathematically doesn't work.' I said, 'Mathematically make it work.'
TUF 17 - Best Season Ever!
And so come Saturday (that's Sunday here in the Philippines), we'll be seeing the following preliminary bouts on Fuel TV:
Clint Hester vs Bristol Marunde
Jimmy Quinlan vs Dylan Andrews
Luke Barnatt vs Collin Hart
Josh Samman vs Kevin Casey

In the Main Card, there will be Bubba McDaniels against Gilbert Smith, while Uriah Hall will battle against Kelvin Gastelum for Finale itself.

Now I'm not too happy with Bubba being in the Main Card - against Gilbert Smith, of all the people?! If this is Joe Silva's retort to Dana White forcing him to 'make the matches work mathematically', well, okay, haha. I get it, you're trying to be funny. Rumor has it that the only reason for Bubba to be included in the Main Card is because of Jon Jones - they're friends, they train together, Dana looks favorably upon him - get my point?

In my opinion, the Jimmy Quinlan vs Dylan Andrews bout should be in the Main Card because yeah, I love Jimmy - he's a great grappler and a World/Pan Jiu Jitsu Champion too boot (also he's my favorite in the bunch, which I've said time and again on my Twitter account) while Dylan has great mixed martial arts skills and one hell of an exciting fighter.

As for the finalists, we've got the half-cyborg, half-Namec fighting machine named Uriah Hall, and the dark horse of the season slash youngest TUF contender ever Kelvin Gastelum. It's hard for me to make a fearless forecast as to who would win this match. Sure, Uriah is known for mutilating his opponents in mere seconds (still can't forget Carlos Condit's face when he saw Uriah KO'd Bubba), but Kelvin has finished all his matches, has the skillset to takedown and hold his opponent, and has knockout power that shouldn't be overlooked.

I know Dana White would have preferred a Uriah Hall-Josh Samman finals, but the stars didn't quite align for the cocky Florida native. (To quote fellow contender Adam Cella, "Nobody loves Josh more than... Josh!") Oh well, est quod est - it is what it is. I am so looking forward to this season's finale, and I can't wait for Chael's match against Jon Jones. Chael promised me a victory, by the way. I promised to throw a party if he wins against Jonny, lol.
DM from The Chael Sonnen - priceless.
