Foodie Goodie | Krispy Kreme Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Donuts.

Now that the little man's Quarterly Exams are over, we can finally sit back, relax, set his books aside for the meantime, and just really enjoy the weekend. I promised my boy we'd go to the movies if he did well in his exams, and so far - from four of his subjects - he's kept his end of the bargain.

As an early treat, I got him these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Krispy Kreme. (Thanks to my friend Angel, who bought them for me!)
Turtle Power sans my favorite turtle, Michaelangelo.
He was sold out at KK Megamall!
I loved them turtles ever since I was a child (I'm a kid of the 80's, you know), and I'm glad my son appreciates them as well. He now has a growing collection of anything 'Ninja Turtle' - from toys, to clothes, to bags, and now even donuts. Haha!
Meet Leonardo. In case you didn't know, he's also the leader of the awesome foursome.
That was a joke, of course. It didn't even take a day for the little man and I to finish this box of 'turtle-frosted' donuts. (Hello, calories on the hips!) Aside from the cuteness factor, I love how these donuts are not cloyingly sweet. Truth be told, they're barely sweet - which is rather surprising considering that the green frosting is actually made from white chocolate.
Truly, Joy in a Box.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles donuts are available at all Krispy Kreme outlets starting August 4. They sell for Php 45 each, or you can buy by the dozen for only Php 395. They're available for a limited time only, so better grab a box now while you still can. Cowabunga! :)

Foodie Goodie | Cinnabon!

If Krispy Kreme is the end-all and be-all of doughnuts, the end-all and be-all of cinnamon rolls, to me, is Cinnabon.

This was exactly what Rich and Greg Komen wanted to achieve some twenty-seven years ago. They hired a Jerilyn Brusseau, a local food connoisseur, to help them with their mission of pioneering the "world's best cinnamon roll".

After three months of research, numerous kitchen experiments, plus several trips to Indonesia to find the most flavorful cinnamon, they were finally able to perfect the cinnamon roll recipe. And with that, the first Cinnabon bakery was opened to the public in December 1985, at the Sea Tac Mall in Seattle, Washington.

Cinnabon finally reached the Philippine shores in October 1999, with the Robinson's Place Manila being its very first branch. Canelle Food Corporation (CFC) is the exclusive Cinnabon franchise holder in the country. Interesting to know that CFC also holds the prestige of opening the very first Cinnabon bakery in Asia.

Cinnabon's patented motto, Life Needs Frosting®, is a great reminder for work-at-home, round-the-clock moms like me - that it's okay to take a break from the usual routine. It's okay to enjoy some me-time. It's okay to splurge and indulge every once in awhile, extra calories included.

Visit a Cinnabon branch near you!
If you're in the Philippines, you can find Cinnabon in these locations

Foodie Goodie | Krispy Kreme, baby!

Homer Simpson and I have one thing in common. We share the same love for doughnuts. My most favorite brand being Krispy Kreme, the end-all and be-all of doughnuts.
The 'it' doughnut!
I love Krispy Kreme so much that their Original Glazed doughnuts were one of the few things I craved for when I was pregnant with the little man. My husband could only shake his head in chagrin and disbelief each time I'd ask for KK doughnuts, because back in 2008, there were only six existing branches - the nearest being the Bonifacio High Street branch. Imagine how 'near' Taguig is to Laguna, haha!
Original Glazed + Chocolate Iced Custard Filled Doughnut.
That being said, it's no surprise that my son loves Krispy Kreme, too. He's a doughnut monster himself, and can devour two Original Glazed d's in one sitting! And so whenever I can, I bring home a box or two of our all-time favorite variants.

Family favorites!
Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles.
Hershey's Cookies and Kreme.
Caramel Kreme Crunch.
The Kit Kat Doughnut is our new favorite variant. Part of the Nestle Chocolate Collection, this square-shaped chocolate doughnut is glazed with white chocolate, topped with a bar of Kit Kat, and drizzled with chocolate.

Krispy Kreme + Nestle Chocolates :)
If you haven't tried the flavors from the Nestle Chocolate Collection, better do so now as they'll be available until October 30 only. It's only a matter of time before they're gone!
75 years and counting!
As for KK, who turned 75 last June, I'm sure there'll be many more birthdays to come.
Birthday doughnut!
Happy 75th Birthday, Krispy Kreme!
More new flavors and more new branches, yes? :)
