Bloody, (Bandaged,) But Unbowed.

Today, I busted my limbs off doing the house chores.
Literally.

Exhibit A.
Purpleish/blueish/blackish bruise as a result of bumping my knee against the bed post while changing the sheets.

Exhibit B.
Nasty cut on my right arm as a result of scraping against a broken metal frame in the dirty kitchen.

Good thing I have a well-stocked first aid kit at home. Coming from a clan of nurses (there are ten RN's in our brood), it's been my habit to keep medicinal supplies ready at my disposal. Round here, I may run out of food stuff, but I can never run out of Paracetamol, Salbutamol, Isopropyl alchohol, Hydrogen peroxide, and Band-Aid.

Funny how I stock up on these bandages with Yue in mind, but I'm the one who - almost always - ends up using them instead. LOL.

So what about you? Do you keep a first aid kit at home? You should. Accidents can happen anytime, and it's better to be prepared for mishaps such as these instead of scrambling for medicine and supplies while you're bleeding like crazy.

Here's a list of the stuff that I keep at home. In case you'd like to use my first aid kit as a reference in preparing yours, these are very basic items and are available in most drugstores and supermarkets.

- Isopropyl alcohol
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Povidone iodine
- Paracetamol
- Salbutamol
- Antihistamine
- Sodium Chloride / Salinase (nasal drops)
- Tetrahydrozoline HCl (eye drops)
- Loperamide
- Sterile gauze
- Cotton balls
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Bandages (Band-aid)
- Thermometer
- Aspirator
- Kool Fever
- Chili Plaster
- Lozenges (Strepsils)

Keep these in a sturdy, airtight container. Those clear plastic boxes with lots of compartments are the best, as you can keep different medicines in one space without mixing them with one another.

And do remember to store your first aid kit in a proper place - accessible enough for the adults, but beyond the reach of a curious child.

  3. Ouch. I feel for you. I am so sorry that you were hurt. By the way your FA box contains many items which mine doesn't. I guess I need to add all the things you mentioned.

    Thank you!

  13. Oh Lordy!
Wow...you certainly go all out when you do a project! I was a bit concerned you'd need a Tetanus shot after that arm gash from the metal thing...but it sounds like you know what you're talking about from a medical standpoint... LOL

I'm dropping by from voiceBoks Members to Remember, and I'm following via Linky and GFC! Love your blog, and can't wait to read more!

  14. Some people are just more accident prone than others. Unfortunately, you sound like one of them. Take care.

  15. Hi LV! Yeah, I'm one of the unlucky ones, lol. The fact that my skin is so sensitive and flimsy adds up to the misfortune as well.

Thanks for the concern, will be a lot more careful next time. I wish I had the option NOT to do any housework at all, haha!

  16. Thanks for the concern, Jenn! Good thing my tetanus shot from my last freak accident (lol!!!) is still in effect.

But I literally bathed my arm in soap and water + disinfectant after the accident happened. :)
